A lengthy block of text is circulating on Facebook, claiming that the monthly remuneration of each newly-elected member of the National Assembly (MNA) will be roughly Rs 188,000, prompting many on social media to query whether the claim was real.
The claim is correct.
Ask: “What will be the salaries and privileges of the newly elected members of the national assembly?” On February 28, a user posted on Facebook.
The post went on to give a breakdown of each MNA’s monthly salary and allowances after taking oath.
“An MNA receives Rs150,000 basic salary, additional allowances of Rs38,000, which includes an allowance for telephone, an office allowance of Rs8,000, an ad-hoc relief of Rs15,000 and an additional allowance of Rs5,000,” the official said.
