During the incident on Saturday at the Westfield Shopping Center in Bondi Junction, Damien Guerot attempted to stop the murderer from injuring further people by using a bollard.
Joel Cauchi, 40, stabbed six people to death and wounded twelve more, including an infant who was nine months old, before a police officer shot and killed him.
Mr. Guerot was praised by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for his “extraordinary bravery” and told he was free to remain in the nation “for as long as you like”.
Following the assault, Mr. Guerot disclosed to nearby news outlets that his work visa was about to expire in a few months.
At a press conference on Tuesday, Mr. Albanese said, “I tell Damien Guerot, who is handling his visa applications, that you are welcome here.”
