The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) organized nationwide rallies on Friday in response to accusations of police crackdowns on party supporters in some regions of Punjab, against alleged general election cheating as well as by-elections, and to demand the release of the party’s imprisoned founder, Imran Khan.
The Khan-led party claims that in an attempt to quell the protest, the Punjab police have raided the homes and workplaces of numerous PTI employees and arrested them.
Nonetheless, the PTI organized protest gatherings in Lahore’s Shahdara, Garden Town, and other neighborhoods.
PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan claimed that their sound system and chairs were taken on the eve of his party’s 28th Foundation Day during a conversation with journalists in Islamabad.
“To defeat the PTI, rigging was committed everywhere [at every polling place],” he continued.
