Due to aural neuropathy, which impairs nerve impulses traveling from the inner ear to the brain, Opal Sandy was completely deaf from birth. But following the one therapy, the 18-month-old’s hearing is now nearly normal and may become better even.
Opal had treatment at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. Professor Manohar Bance, who led the experiment, stated that the outcomes were “better than I hoped or expected” and expressed optimism that medical professionals will be able to treat additional patients with this kind of deafness.
“The outcomes from (Opal) are just amazing—so near to a typical hearing restoration. We therefore hope that it might be a cure.
