House Speaker Mike Johnson chastised President Biden and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., on Thursday for blocking US military aid to Israel, as the House was set to vote on a bill requiring bomb supplies to the Jewish state in the midst of its fight against Hamas.
On the Capitol steps, Johnson also drew parallels to Biden’s decision earlier Thursday to use executive privilege to prevent House committees from obtaining subpoenaed audio recordings of his interview with former special counsel Robert Hur about classified documents discovered in the president’s possession.
“Rather than defend our closest ally at war, President Biden is using his authority to defend himself politically,” Johnson stated. “Just as President Biden defies the will of Congress by using the executive.
