The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has decided that anyone wishing to pursue medical education abroad will now need to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC).
The PMDC must provide a NOC to students for the 2024 session. According to officials, thirty percent of the 3,000 Pakistani students who study medicine overseas each year are female.
“Such students are not consumed in Pakistan; the majority of Pakistani students pursue medical education in China; Afghanistan and the Central Asian states rank second and third among the top study destinations for students.”
The Federal Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations, and Coordination had previously outlawed government physicians’ travel abroad.
The Federal Ministry of Health’s circular states that government physicians are not permitted to travel overseas.
