The distribution of free solar systems to the general people throughout the province has been finalized by the Punjab administration. The goal of this project is to help Pakistan’s most vulnerable populations in the face of growing electricity costs. The government would have to pay Rs. 10 billion for the free solar system program, according to reports on Thursday.
Who Qualifies for the 2024 Punjab Solar System Scheme?
Fifty thousand families will receive free solar systems from the government. Eligible families are those whose monthly electricity consumption does not exceed 100 units. The entire cost of the solar setup will be paid for by the provincial government. Nevertheless, the program will not be available to anybody engaged in criminal activities such as meter tampering or electricity theft.
The National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) will receive the data of families using up to 100 units each month, validate the information, and then submit it to the Punjab Information Technology Board. Following verification, the district administration will receive the verified lists from the board and distribute the solar systems to qualified homes.
Families using up to 100 units of electricity per month can use SMS to sign up for the program. They must email their CNIC and bill reference number to 8800.
Following verification, they will receive an update on the outcomes.
