ISLAMABAD: On Thursday, the Supreme Court received a motion from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) contesting the exoneration of prominent PTI figures, Imran Khan and Shah Mahmood Qureshi, in the cipher case.
On June 3, the conviction of the imprisoned PTI founder and Qureshi in the notorious case involving allegations of mishandling and misplacing the confidential diplomatic paper was overturned by the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
Days before the elections scheduled for February 8, the former prime minister and foreign minister were found guilty in the cipher case in January of this year and given 10-year prison sentences apiece.
The diplomatic cable dispute started on March 27, 2022, when Khan brandished a letter in front of the audience during a public rally and claimed it was a cipher from a foreign country.
