PESHAWAR: TikTok has transferred the responsibility for removing offensive content to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), claiming that it removes videos in response to complaints from the watchdog.
In a correspondence addressed to the Peshawar High Court (PHC), the venue for a petition filed against the application, TikTok stated that it has not lately encountered any escalations concerning blasphemous content via the dedicated gateway.
Judges SM Atiq Shah and Shakeel Ahmed make up the bench that is presiding over the crucial hearing of the case to outlaw TikTok in Pakistan due to purportedly blasphemous and immoral content.
Advocate Imran Khan filed a lawsuit asking the court to order the respondents, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), the PTA, and the Ministry of Information, to permanently ban TikTok from the country due to repeated violations of the law and rules.
The telecom regulator was instructed by the court in the prior hearing to make sure that any offensive or blasphemous content on TikTok is removed.
The video-sharing app stated in its letter that TikTok takes the problem of blasphemous content very seriously and has a rigorous policy with regard to Pakistan.
“It is precisely because of this seriousness that TikTok has taken measures and provided special access to a dedicated portal to the PTA to report such content for expedited review by TikTok,” the letter stated.
