In reaction to a UN report that deemed the detention of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan to be arbitrary and against international law, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar labeled the arrest and cases against him a “internal matter” in an announcement made in Islamabad.
The law minister stated in a statement released on Tuesday that “the PTI founder has all the rights according to the country’s constitution, law, and international standards.”
Since his departure as prime, Imran has been accused of everything from terrorism to corruption.
The former prime minister is incarcerated as a convicted prisoner, according to Tarar, who also stated that Pakistan’s courts uphold the country’s constitution and current laws as an independent state.
The minister went on to say that the PTI founder’s relief in many cases is an example of an open and equitable trial legal system.
“Any demand beyond the Constitution, law, and international principles will be called discriminatory, biased and against justice,” Tarar stated.
The UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, situated in Geneva, declared on Monday that the imprisoned lawmaker needed to be “released immediately.”
The PTI founder was found guilty in many charges before to a national election earlier this year, and he has been behind bars since last August. In addition, he is still battling dozens of additional lawsuits.
