In a report, the United Nations Human Rights Working Group condemned the incarceration of former prime minister Imran Khan, saying it was arbitrary and against international law.
The Working Group says that Imran Khan should be released immediately since his arrest is unwarranted, according to the report. The study demands an unbiased probe into the circumstances behind the PTI founder’s detention and supports his entitlement to compensation.
The study also emphasizes how Imran Khan’s legal troubles are a component of a larger campaign of repression against him and his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party. In the run-up to the general elections of 2024, it is claimed that PTI members were the targets of arrests, torture, and disruption of political gatherings.
Concerns about extensive electoral fraud and the purported theft of many parliamentary seats are also brought up in the study. The Working Group raises concerns about a lack of openness and justice in the legal process by pointing out inconsistencies and irregularities in the cases filed against Imran Khan.
