Defence Minister Khawaja Asif doubled down on his criticism of the judiciary on Tuesday, calling on the courts to avoid rendering “political verdicts” and to uphold their dignity in the wake of the Supreme Court’s July 12 ruling in favor of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the reserved seats case.
He remarked, “I respect the courts, but courts should also get themselves respected and politicians should not be mistaken as being too weak,” on Tuesday at a news conference in Sialkot.
Days after the Supreme Court’s brief ruling in the reserved seats case, which declared the Imran Khan-founded party qualified for reserved seats for women and minorities in the assembly, the defense minister made his comments.
