This occurs after it was revealed that Thomas Crooks, the gunman, was seen by police for over an hour prior to him opening fire. They even snapped a picture of him to provide to other law enforcement personnel.
Kevin Rojek, the special agent in charge of the FBI’s Pittsburgh field office, stated on Monday, “We want to hear his perspective on what he saw.”
The FBI often speaks with victims of federal crimes while conducting investigations, and this interview with the Republican presidential nominee for 2024 is anticipated.
Based on around 450 interviews, the FBI has developed a more detailed picture of the gunman.
A local officer took a picture of Crooks and sent it to other law enforcement officials at the rally. About 30 minutes later, SWAT team operators saw Crooks using a rangefinder and browsing news sites. At around 5:56 p.m. local time, Crooks was seen carrying a backpack, less than 20 minutes before the shooting occurred. Crooks, 20, was described as a “highly intelligent” but reclusive young man with few friends and acquaintances. Mr. Rojek added, “The shooter was identified by law enforcement as a suspicious person.”
