Together, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) criticized the Punjab government’s proposal to give power users a two-month reprieve, calling it a purely cosmetic measure.
President Nawaz Sharif of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) announced a day ago a two-month power subsidy program for the people of Punjab. The program would be provided to users consuming up to 500 units in August and September bills.
Speaking on Saturday’s Naya Pakistan news show, PPP leader Murtaza Wahab stated that while aiding the masses has always been a top priority for governments, it should only be given temporarily.Speaking about the power relief plan announced by the Punjab government, he stated that just two months will be provided for the relief, at a cost to the province budget of Rs 45 billion.
Wahab accused the PML-N government of rushing the signing of agreements with independent power producers (IPPs).
