ISLAMABAD/RAWALPINDI: As a result of ongoing monsoon spells, dengue cases in both Rawalpindi and Islamabad have been steadily rising. However, officials in these twin cities are concerned that September may see a sudden rise in cases because of the favorable conditions brought on by rainfall.
As anti-dengue activities, notably in the “border areas” of the twin cities, continue in full swing, Islamabad recorded more than 30 cases of the virus during the current season, while Rawalpindi reported more than 80 cases.
Nadeem Mehbub, the federal health secretary, claims that the health department has been instructed to destroy dengue larvae’s breeding places and step up surveillance within federal territory.
The likelihood of a rapid spike in dengue cases has increased due to the extended rainy spells.
