The primary focus of attention is on the very competitive and explosive Republican and Democratic contests for governor of New Hampshire. The candidates are vying to replace GOP Governor Chris Sununu, who is stepping down after four consecutive two-year terms in office.
Sen. Kelly Ayotte, a former state attorney general who broke with former President Trump following the publication of the infamous “Access Hollywood” video and narrowly lost her Senate reelection in 2016, is the front-runner in polling and fundraising for the Republican nomination.
However, Ayotte backed Trump this year as he seeks the presidency.
Her opponent, former president of the state Senate Chuck Morse, has emphasized his conservative background and endorsement of Trump. But the ex-president remained unaffiliated with the contest.
Pundits view the contest in New Hampshire, a state that consistently swings both ways in general elections, as the only competitive gubernatorial race in the country this year.
