ISLAMABAD In the midst of speculation about a judiciary-focused bill that would raise the retirement age for judges of superior courts, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif declared that the government is prepared to present a “constitutional amendment” in the National Assembly (NA) on Saturday because it has reached the “magic number.”
“We’ve finished the numerical game in the lower house of parliament,” he declared on Friday during a casual chat with reporters outside the parliament building. He verified that the National Assembly has been called into session for tomorrow.
The defense czar’s comments coincided with rumors that the administration is considering enacting a “constitutional package” that would contain a number of judicial reforms, including raising the retirement age of judges on high courts.
