News has gathered that the owners of the Daily Mail, DMGT, and the publisher of The Sun, News UK, revealed extensive internal reorganizations in their digital operations this week across the Atlantic.
According to industry insiders, the two businesses were laying off a sizable number of workers in the US, where The Sun first published an online version four years ago.
It is believed that the two sets of cuts coincidentally were implemented on the same day.
Since launching Dailymail.com in the US in 2010, DMGT is estimated to have 200 employees there, down from around 260 seven years prior.
According to one insider, the DMGT layoffs accounted for somewhat less than 10% of its US personnel; however, it is believed that a far larger percentage of The Sun’s US employees were let go.
It was not as high as 80%, according to a source close to News UK, a division of Rupert Murdoch’s media empire.
