State Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima Khawaja, chief secretaries from every province, representatives from the Ministry of Education, Unicef, UNDP, FCDO, Unesco, the World Bank, ADB, Malala Fund, ITA, and Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute were present at the meeting, which was presided over by Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal.
In his address to the group, the minister of planning conveyed his grave concern about the terrible situation of education today and emphasized the need for quick action to repair the system.
He brought attention to the concerning statistics from the Education Index, stating that over 25 million children in Pakistan are not attending school at the moment and that the country’s literacy rate is only 60%, both of which are serious issues.
