There are now 26 confirmed cases of polio nationwide this year after two new cases were confirmed in Pakistan. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s southern areas, where health officials are still fighting the virus’s spread, both illnesses were found.
Information about recent cases
The National Polio Emergency Operation Center reports that an 11-month-old girl in Sulemankhel Union Council, Lakki Marwat, was the only confirmed case.
In the second instance, the virus also incapacitated a 19-month-old girl from Mir Ali II Union Council in North Waziristan.
Through laboratory testing, the National Institute of Health (NIH) in Islamabad confirmed both cases.
