NEW DELHI: India has responded to the historic defense agreement between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan by stating that it will examine the consequences of the move for its regional, national, and international security.
A spokesman for India’s Ministry of External Affairs, Shri Randhir Jaiswal, said in a statement on Thursday, “We have seen reports of the signing of a strategic mutual defense pact between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.”
“The government remains committed to protecting India’s national interests and ensuring comprehensive national security in all domains,” it stated.
India’s response, which should be viewed in light of its May war with Pakistan, was made one day after the two countries formally signed a historic Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement.
