Martha Stewart is breaking the traditional grandmother stereotype once again. The 84-year-old lifestyle icon recently opened up on QVC+’s 50+ & Unfiltered podcast about the unusual way her grandchildren—14-year-old Jude and 13-year-old Truman — address her.
Unlike many grandparents, Martha’s grandkids have never called her “Grandma” or “Nana.” Instead, they simply call her Martha. “They’ve called me Martha since the day they were born,” she revealed. “Even their friends call me Martha. I’m not a Mrs. Stewart.”
The choice comes from her daughter, Alexis Stewart, who has always referred to her mother by her first name. “My daughter calls me Martha,” Martha explained. “She’s always called me Martha.”
Martha also described her relationship with Alexis as more of a friendship than a traditional mother-daughter dynamic. “We’re very different — I’m an extrovert, she’s not,” she said.
The conversation got even more candid when Martha admitted that swearing is a habit in their household. “I have a swearing banshee of a daughter,” she joked, “and my grandson swears too. He’s only 13!”
“Fuck. When asked about her favorite curse word, Martha didn’t hold back: “F–k. It’s such a good one,” she laughed.
Even at 84, Martha Stewart continues to surprise fans with her modern, unapologetic approach to family life, showing that age doesn’t define how fun or unconventional a grandparent can be.
