In Pakistan, the price of ghee and cooking oil has increased significantly in recent weeks, which has affected the already high cost of living. Price increases of between Rs40 and Rs50 per kilogram have been reported, primarily as a result of a notable increase in the price of palm oil on the global market.
Over the course of two months, the price of palm oil has increased significantly by $300, from $900 to $1,200 per ton.
This increase is attributed to a number of global market conditions, which forces local firms to modify their pricing policies in reaction to rising raw material prices.
Additionally, manufacturers are pushing for tax breaks, which are now set at Rs100 per kilogram for oil and ghee, in an attempt to keep prices affordable for customers.
