For alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity, judges at the International Criminal Court have issued arrest warrants for Hamas leader Ibrahim Al-Masri, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and his former defense commander.
The action follows ICC prosecutor Karim Khan’s May 20 announcement that he was requesting arrest warrants for alleged crimes related to the Israeli military operation in Gaza and the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas assault on Israel.
According to the ICC, Israel did not have to acknowledge the court’s jurisdiction.
Israel has denied war crimes in Gaza and rejected the Hague-based court’s jurisdiction. Hamas has not verified nor refuted Israel’s claim that it killed Al-Masri, also known as Mohammed Deif, in an airstrike.
