With a 2-0 victory over Canada, Daniel Altmaier and Jan-Lennard Struff guided Germany to the semi-finals of the Davis Cup Finals in Malaga. The German pair defeated Gabriel Diallo and Denis Shapovalov on November 20 to advance to a match against the Netherlands, who had upset Spain 2-1 the previous day.
In less than two hours, Altmaier defeated Diallo 7-6 (5), 6-4 to earn Germany the vital first point. Altmaier surged to a 5-0 lead before finishing it out in the fiercely contested opening set. After falling behind 15-40 in the tenth game of the second set, he rallied to win the match.
