In response to rumors that some universities in Islamabad had been closed due to security concerns, Caretaker Information Minister Murtaza Solangi made it clear on Tuesday that not all of the federal capital’s educational facilities had been closed.
Three universities in Islamabad were reportedly closed for an indeterminate length of time due to security concerns, according to stories that surfaced in mainstream media one day earlier. The report surfaced following a late-Sunday search operation by security forces in the capital’s outskirts.
The communications minister promised in a statement that in cases where there was a risk to residents’ and students’ safety, the state would uphold its obligation to ensure their protection.
In the meantime, the Islamabad Territory Police (ICT) made it clear that no market, bank, school, or private institution had been closed by them.
“Life is normal and the situation in Islamabad is completely peaceful.”Speaking with X, the former Twitter, a police spokeswoman asked the public to refrain from spreading such unfounded rumors.
However, sources close to International Islamic University asserted today that due to security concerns, the university has been closed until January 26.
A day earlier, however, given the current state of affairs in the nation’s capital, the IIUI administration requested that all parties involved provide impenetrable security measures on university campuses.
Prof. Dr. Samina Malik, the IIUI Rector, urged the interested parties to adopt security precautions in this regard. The rector of IIU instructed the university’s security and administration, emphasizing that maintaining calm on campus is our top priority.
