As Israeli forces launched a barrage of airstrikes throughout Lebanon, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel said that he would suggest his cabinet adopt a ceasefire deal with the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah.
Setting the foundation for a truce that would end Israel’s 14-month confrontation with Hezbollah, which has claimed hundreds of lives amid escalating bloodshed throughout the region, Netanyahu said in a televised speech that he would offer the draft ceasefire to cabinet members later on Tuesday.
The details of the truce and its implementation date were not specified by the Israeli prime minister.
What transpires in Lebanon will determine how long the ceasefire lasts. We shall uphold the contract and take strong action against any infraction. Together, we shall persevere.
