London/Kyiv: Concerned that it would tip the scales in favor of Moscow, European countries and Ukraine are pressing the US to adopt a more tough stance before President Donald Trump meets with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss ending the war.
On Saturday, European leaders sent the United States their own recommendations for peace in Ukraine.
Trump declared on Friday that he would meet with Putin in Alaska on August 15 and that a solution that might end the three-and-a-half-year conflict was imminent between the parties, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.
Although the specifics of the possible agreement are yet unknown, Trump stated that it would entail “some swapping of territories to the betterment of both.” Ukraine might have to give up a sizable portion of its territory.
