Raghu Rai: The photographer who helped India see itself Rich tributes continue after the passing of Raghu Rai at the age of 83. He stood as one of India’s most respected photojournalists. Over more than five decades, he documented the country with depth, honesty, and sharp visual clarity. His photographs did more than record events. They helped people understand them. His work influenced how India viewed its political shifts, cultural icons, and social struggles. Early career and rise in photojournalism Raghu Rai began his professional journey in 1966 with The Statesman newspaper. He quickly developed a strong eye for real life moments. His work later expanded into editorial roles at India Today and Sunday magazine. He joined Magnum Photos in 1977. This step marked a major point in his career. Henri Cartier Bresson supported his entry, and this connection shaped his visual style and thinking. Political history through his lens Rai documented key political moments in India with rare access and sensitivity. His photographs of Indira Gandhi stand among his most recognized work. He captured her in public rallies, campaign trails, and private party meetings. He focused on expression, body language, and atmosphere rather than staged poses. His images gave the public a closer view of political power and decision making in India. Documenting conflict and crisis Raghu Rai also covered some of India’s most difficult periods. He worked in Bhopal after the gas tragedy and captured its human impact. He also documented Punjab during the militancy period in the 1980s, where violence affected thousands of lives. His photographs from these events carried emotional weight. He showed suffering, tension, and resilience without turning away from uncomfortable realities. Portraits of culture and creativity Rai photographed many well known cultural figures including Lata Mangeshkar, Satyajit Ray, M F Hussain, and Amitabh Bachchan. He focused on natural expressions and real interaction rather than formal staging. His portraits often revealed respect between the subject and their audience. He captured the human side of fame and creativity. A philosophy beyond technique Raghu Rai often described photography as more than skill or equipment. He treated it as a way to observe life closely and truthfully. His approach shaped generations of photographers in India and beyond. His work continues to influence visual storytelling today.

Rose Dugdale: From Heiress to Infamous IRA Art Heist Figure Bridget Rose Dugdale was born into wealth and privilege in 1941, with a future that seemed fully planned. She grew up surrounded by luxury, received private tutoring from a French governess, and attended elite finishing schools across Europe. Like many young women from aristocratic families, she entered high society as a debutante and was presented to the Queen. Her life appeared set for tradition, comfort, and status. But Dugdale chose a very different path. A Rejection of Privilege As she entered adulthood, Dugdale began to question the world she was raised in. She felt uneasy about the lavish lifestyle and strict social expectations. The “Season,” a formal series of elite social events designed to introduce young women into society, only deepened her discomfort. She later criticized her own coming-out ball, describing it as excessive and wasteful. The event, she said, cost as much as what dozens of elderly people might live on for months. That realization marked a turning point. Dugdale started distancing herself from her privileged background. A Radical Shift in Beliefs By her mid-30s, Dugdale had completely broken away from her former life. She gave away her inheritance and even took money from her own family to support causes she believed in. Her views became strongly anti-establishment, and she aligned herself with Irish republican ideals. Her actions soon moved beyond protest. Dugdale became involved with the Irish Republican Army (IRA), a militant group engaged in conflict over Northern Ireland. She participated in direct operations, including a helicopter hijacking used to attack a police station. This act shocked many, given her elite upbringing. One of History’s Largest Art Heists In April 1974, Dugdale took part in a major art theft that gained global attention. The group targeted a wealthy estate and stole valuable paintings. During the robbery, they removed artworks directly from their frames, causing damage in the process. The stolen collection included works of major cultural and financial value. This operation became known as one of the largest art heists ever carried out. Dugdale’s involvement placed her firmly at the center of the crime. It also showed how far she had moved from her earlier life of formality and tradition. From Socialite to Militant Operative Dugdale’s transformation did not stop at theft. She later became involved in developing explosives for IRA operations. Her journey from aristocrat to militant activist remains one of the most unusual personal shifts in modern history. Her story reflects a deep ideological change. She rejected wealth, status, and comfort in favor of political struggle and radical action.

From Scientist to Silk Farmer: A New Chapter in India’s Sericulture Industry A Bold Career Shift Dr. Jolapuram Umamaheswari made a life-changing decision six years ago. She left her career as a scientist in Singapore and returned to India. At that time, she had no job. Still, she was clear about one thing, she wanted independence and control over her work. Instead of looking for another research role, she explored different options. After careful study, she chose silk farming, also known as sericulture. This field combines biology, agriculture, and business. For her, it felt like a natural extension of her scientific background. Turning Science into Practice Sericulture involves raising silkworms on mulberry leaves. Farmers then collect the cocoons and extract silk fibers. Although the process sounds simple, it requires precision and care. In the beginning, Umamaheswari faced several problems. Diseases affected the silkworms. Yields were inconsistent. Managing a living system also required constant attention. These early challenges tested her patience. However, she used her scientific knowledge to improve her methods. She focused on better hygiene. She refined feeding practices. She also controlled the environment more carefully. Over time, these small changes made a big difference. Consistent Growth and Stable Income Today, her hard work has paid off. She produces around 10 batches of silk each year. Each cycle takes about 25 to 30 days. This allows her to maintain a steady production flow. She now earns nearly $1,000 per month. The income feels stable, almost like a regular salary. This is one of the biggest advantages of sericulture. Unlike many farming activities, it does not depend only on seasons. Umamaheswari believes silk farming offers reliable returns when managed properly. Her journey shows how science can support agriculture in practical ways. It also highlights new opportunities in India’s growing silk industry.

IndiGo CEO Resigns After Major Flight Cancellation Crisis Pieter Elbers has left his position as IndiGo's chief executive officer, just months after IndiGo faced a major flight cancellation crisis. He resigned immediately, the company said. The reason given was personal. His decision was not explained in any further detail. After a series of widespread cancellations in late 2018, the airline was heavily criticized. This disruption affected thousands and raised questions about the way in which the airline managed operational changes. The Crisis that Led to the Cancellation of Thousands Flights The airline cancelled 4,500 flights in December. It was the biggest disruption the airline has ever experienced in its 20-year history. These cancellations caused chaos at Indian airports and left many passengers stranded during the busy holiday travel season. India's new regulations on duty hours for pilots and their rest periods triggered the issue. The regulations were designed to improve safety and reduce fatigue among pilots. The airline, however, underestimated how many pilots were needed when the new rules came into effect. Many aircraft were unable to operate legally because the crews didn't meet required duty limits. This shortage caused the airline to cancel tens of thousands of flights. The Aviation Regulator Imposes Fine India's aviation regulator investigated the incident later and criticized the management of the airline for their response to the crises. The company was also fined $2.45million by the authorities. Elbers was among the senior executives who were criticized for their handling of the crisis. This disruption caused public anger and pressure to increase on the leadership of the airline. The Interim Leaders for the Governing Body Rahul Bhatia, the airline's co-founder, will assume interim leadership. The company will be managed by him while the board looks for a replacement chief executive. Bhatia sent an email to his staff in which he acknowledged the severity of the situation. Bhatia told staff that this disruption was not expected and thanked everyone for their hard work during the crisis. IndiGo’s role in India's aviation growth IndiGo, India's largest airline, controls about two-thirds of its domestic aviation market. Due to its dominance, disruptions in its operation can have a significant impact on the travel industry. About 440 aircraft are operated by the airline. The majority of the airline's flights are domestic. The airline also offers international flights to the Middle East and Europe, as well as several destinations within Asia. In recent years, the Indian air travel industry has grown rapidly. IndiGo played an important role in this growth, adding new routes while increasing capacity. Elbers Expansion Plan Elbers began his career as a pilot in the global aviation industry in 2022. He worked for KLM Royal Dutch Airlines before taking on the position. IndiGo, during his tenure as the leader of this airline placed with Airbus one of the biggest aircraft orders ever in aviation's history. This deal involved 500 narrow-body aircraft as well as several wide-body planes. This order was part of the strategy adopted by Air Canada to compete globally and expand their international network. The recent crisis in operations has created significant challenges for the business and led to a change of leadership.

Previous Article The Young Iranians try to live normally during war On Tuesday evening, snow covered some parts of Tehran. Although the white snow looked peaceful, Tehran had only just experienced days of darkness. Smoke and black rain filled the atmosphere after air strikes were conducted on oil depots. Many young Iranians say that despite the fear and tension, they try to live their normal lives. Daily Life under Constant Stress Sahar is a twenty-something woman who spends the majority of her day at home. To pass time, she cooks, plays video games, and reads. The war, she says, has altered her feelings and thoughts. Stress makes her focus more on the creative aspects of the game. She designs beautiful virtual houses for hours. She uses it to distract herself from her fear of the outside world. The war is still in her life. Sahar recently learned of the death in an assault of a former classmate. The body of her friend has not yet been located. She was deeply shocked by the news. She is shocked by the news. She hopes, like many others, that the fighting will end before Nowruz - the Persian New year. This holiday is a celebration of spring, and it's usually one of the most joyful times of year. The Quiet City before the Holiday Nowruz will be here in less than 10 days. In normal years the streets and markets of Iran are crowded. Before the festivities begin, families buy nuts, sweets and presents for their guests. The feeling this year is very different. Peyman is a thirty-year-old man who says that Tehran does not look like it's preparing to host a festival. The metro, he says is nearly empty. Each train carriage has dozens of empty seats. It is also strange to hear the streets. He said that the streets are so quiet, people could play football right in the middle. One resident claims that the bombings has changed his routine. After the bombings stop, he now goes to sleep in the early morning. He sometimes goes out to get groceries and leaves the house in the late afternoon. Tehran has a population of 14 million. Many residents of Tehran have left since the 28th February attacks. Some families have moved to the north, towards the Caspian sea where it is quieter. Families leaving the Capital Mina is a young woman who recently traveled with her family from Tehran to Rasht, where she stayed with her grandmother. She initially did not wish to leave. She chose to remain in Tehran with her best friend, who also happens to be flatmate. Mina was ashamed that she had gone without her. One night, however, changed it all. The entire apartment was shaken when strikes struck the oil depots. Windows suddenly became brighter as though it was daytime. Her family drove finally to Rasht the next day. The rainy, polluted weather that followed the strike stained their car. Mina continues to call her friend daily, even after she has left the city. The two often discuss the future, and what they hope to achieve once the war is over. When life returns to normal, they have a simple idea: dyeing their hair lighter colors. Internet Blackout with Secret Connections Communications inside Iran have become very difficult. When the war began, authorities shut down all internet services. Some residents still found a way to get online. Many residents now connect to the internet using Starlink. This service is provided through satellites and small dishes. It is dangerous to use this system. If caught, authorities can sentence users to up two years of prison. Mehran is a young Iranian man who secretly connects with 25 other people. The device was hidden in an obscure location, so that officials could not find it or stop its use. There are even people who sell Internet access via Telegram. One gigabyte can cost up to six dollars. This is an expensive price in a nation where most people only earn 200-300 dollars per month. Shima is a young woman who bought the access in case of an emergency. It is sometimes hard to connect and the connection can be slow. She is relieved that she can still send messages and let her relatives know she's safe. The Young Iranians try to live normally during war

Musk vs Altman: From Partners to Courtroom Rivals The long-running conflict between Elon Musk and Sam Altman has moved beyond social media and into a US courtroom. Once co-founders of OpenAI, the two tech leaders are now locked in a legal fight that could shape the future of artificial intelligence. How the Dispute Reached Court For years, Musk and Altman exchanged sharp comments online. This week, the situation escalated into a formal trial in California. The case will run for about a month, with both men expected to testify. Musk claims that Altman changed OpenAI’s original purpose. He says the company moved away from its non-profit roots and focused on profit. According to Musk, this shift cost him millions and broke the founding agreement. Altman and OpenAI strongly reject these claims. They argue that Musk is acting out of frustration after leaving the company. They also believe he wants to slow down a major competitor in the race for advanced AI. Key Players in the Lawsuit Musk’s lawsuit does not target Altman alone. He has also named Greg Brockman and Microsoft. Musk alleges that Microsoft helped OpenAI turn into a profit-driven business. Microsoft has denied any wrongdoing. Musk is asking for billions in damages. He wants that money directed toward OpenAI’s non-profit arm. He is also pushing for major leadership changes, including removing Altman from his position. The Bigger Picture: AI and Power At the center of this case is the concept of AGI, or artificial general intelligence. This refers to AI systems that can match or exceed human intelligence. When OpenAI launched in 2015, Musk and Altman shared a vision. They wanted AGI to benefit all humanity, not just corporations. Over time, that shared vision appears to have fractured. Today, both figures are major players in the global AI race. Their conflict reflects deeper tensions about control, profit, and responsibility in the tech world. What Happens Next A nine-member jury will decide the outcome under Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers. She has made it clear that fame and wealth will not influence the process. While one side may win legally, the reputational impact could affect both Musk and Altman. The trial is not just about money. It is about trust, leadership, and the future direction of AI development.

The comment came during a sketch where he referred to Melania Trump in a playful but controversial way. The White House and Melania Trump reacted strongly and called the remark inappropriate. Kimmel Defends His Statement Kimmel addressed the backlash during his next monologue on Jimmy Kimmel Live. He said the joke was meant as light comedy and focused on the age difference between Donald Trump and Melania Trump. He clearly stated that his words were not meant to encourage violence in any form. He also said he has spoken many times against gun violence and supports reducing harmful rhetoric. Kimmel urged critics to view the comment in its comedic context rather than as a political statement. Melania Trump Responds Publicly Melania Trump responded on social media and expressed strong disagreement with the joke. She said public figures should not be given platforms if they spread harmful or negative messages about families. She also said the comments added to political tension in the country. Donald Trump Joins the Criticism Donald Trump also reacted strongly and described the joke as offensive. He said many people viewed it as inappropriate and harmful. He called for action against the show and criticized the network for continuing to air Kimmel. Supporters of Kimmel see the joke as standard satire, while critics believe public figures should avoid sensitive subjects that may cause public anger.
