Sky News asked him if he would agree to join NATO, but only in the region that Kyiv presently controls.
Zelensky stated that he would, but only if the entire Ukrainian territory, within its internationally recognized borders, was first offered membership in NATO.
In an extensive interview, he stated that Ukraine may next try to negotiate the return of territory currently occupied by Russia “in a diplomatic way.”.
However, the proposal is rather theoretical. Since this was a television interview rather than a diplomatic forum, Zelensky is not making any fresh proposals, but he is sending out signals.
It is quite unlikely that NATO would ever consider such a step.
According to Zelensky, “Ukraine has never considered such a proposal because no one has officially offered it to us.”
