SUKKUR: Burying females alive is a practice that takes us back to the “age of ignorance,” but sadly, it is still practiced. In Naushahro Feroze, Sindh, a man was detained for burying his 15-day-old infant alive in a tomb.
The defendant claimed he committed the horrific act because he “didn’t have money for the baby’s treatment” after confessing to burying his newborn daughter alive in front of the police.
Following social media claims of a newborn buried alive in a village close to Tharo Shah in District Naushaharoferoz, the police apprehended Tayyab, also known as Machar Rajper.
After noticing the “viral video,” retired Saddam Hussain Khaskheli, Captain of the Nausharoferoz Superintendent of Police (SSP), directed Deputy Superintendent of Police Abdul Majeed Arain to confirm its authenticity.
Following confirmation, the brothers of the suspect, Imdad and Hanif Rajper, were apprehended by the DSP and the SHO of Tharo Shah Police Station, who had hurried to the stated location.
After questioning the suspect and his brothers, they subsequently detained him and, in front of a magistrate, excavated the newborn girl’s body from the location he had specified for more examination.
According to Tayyab’s statement to the police, he didn’t have the money to cure his baby because she was anemic at birth, so he gave her to a relative.
He claimed that the relative gave him the baby back, citing financial constraints as the reason.
Rather than returning the infant home, he buried her after placing her in a gunny bag.
