Adiala jail’s Imran Khan declines to meet with the FIA investigation team

Sources say Imran Khan told FIA team that he would respond to their questions in presence of his lawyers

RAWALPINDI: Sources told Geo News that Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), declined to meet with the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) cybercrime team when they arrived at Adiala jail late on Thursday night.

The former prime minister reportedly declined to cooperate with the FIA’s probe into his contentious social media post on X, a defunct Twitter platform, according to sources within Adiala jail.

The sources claimed that Khan declined to respond to any inquiries from the FIA team. “I will answer any question in the presence of lawyers,” he stated.

The PTI founder’s response was received in writing by the FIA’s investigative team, according to the sources.

This comes after the FIA’s cybercrime department decided to take action against Khan on Thursday due to his contentious social media tweet.

The former prime minister was quoted as saying on X: “Every Pakistani should study the Hamood ur Rahman Commission Report and get to know who was the true traitor, General Yahya Khan or Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.”

Barrister Gohar, the chairman of the PTI, said that Khan was unrelated to the post because he was not privy to the text of the posts that were published to his account.

Gohar defended the tweet as well, claiming that it was misinterpreted.

“The context and comparison that we drew with 1971 was in a political context and not otherwise — nothing about the army,” the head of the PTI stated.

However, the previous ruling party likewise supported the appointment, claiming that the 1971 events
