Pakistan Tuition Centre Roof Collapse Leaves 14 Children Dead A tragic roof collapse at a private tuition centre in Kahna, a suburb near Lahore, has claimed the lives of 14 children. Several others suffered injuries after the building suddenly gave way during class hours. Emergency teams rushed to the scene soon after receiving reports of the collapse. Rescue workers quickly removed debris and searched for trapped victims. The operation ended within about an hour after emergency crews reached the location. Most of the children rescued from the building were between seven and eleven years old. Officials confirmed that many of the victims were younger than ten years of age, making the incident even more heartbreaking. Rescue Teams Responded Quickly Rescue personnel worked continuously to save as many children as possible. Their fast response helped bring survivors to safety and allowed medical teams to provide immediate treatment. Authorities reported that five people sustained injuries in the incident. Ambulances transported the injured to nearby hospitals, where doctors continue to monitor their condition. Investigation Underway Government officials have started an investigation to determine what caused the roof to collapse. Investigators will examine the building's construction, maintenance records, and overall safety standards. As part of the initial inquiry, authorities have taken two people into custody. Officials have not yet released further details about the individuals or the possible charges they may face. Questions Raised About Building Safety The tragic incident has raised fresh concerns about the safety of private educational buildings. Parents and local residents are demanding strict inspections to ensure that schools and tuition centres provide safe learning environments for children. Experts believe regular building inspections and proper maintenance can help prevent similar accidents in the future. Authorities are expected to review safety regulations as the investigation continues. Community Mourns the Victims The heartbreaking loss of so many young lives has left families and the local community in deep mourning. Messages of sympathy continue to pour in as people pray for the children who lost their lives and wish a speedy recovery to those receiving medical treatment. Officials have promised to complete a thorough investigation and take appropriate action against anyone found responsible for negligence.

Chinese Businessman Guo Wengui Sentenced to 30 Years in US Prison Chinese businessman Guo Wengui, who was once considered one of China's wealthiest property developers, has been sentenced to 30 years in a United States prison after being found guilty of running a massive billion dollar fraud scheme. The court ruled that Guo deceived thousands of supporters and investors by promising financial opportunities and political causes. Instead, prosecutors said he used much of the money to support his luxurious lifestyle. Court Says Investors Were Misled The sentence was handed down by a federal court in New York after Guo was convicted of racketeering, fraud, and money laundering. According to the court, Guo targeted people who wanted to support democratic change in China. Many trusted his public image and invested money in projects that later turned out to be fraudulent. The judge stated that Guo abused the confidence of his followers and spent investor funds on expensive personal assets instead of the purposes he had promoted. Billion Dollar Investment Scheme Investigators said Guo collected more than $1 billion from supporters between 2018 and 2023 through investment programs and cryptocurrency projects. Authorities claimed he spent the money on luxury items, including a large mansion, a Lamborghini worth around $1 million, and a luxury yacht valued at approximately $37 million. Prosecutors argued that these purchases clearly showed that investor funds were being used for personal benefit rather than legitimate business activities. Guo Denied the Allegations Throughout the case, Guo maintained his innocence. He argued that the money helped finance his political activism against China's ruling Communist Party. Before moving to the United States in 2017, Guo had built a successful property business in China and maintained strong connections with senior government officials. However, after Chinese authorities accused him of corruption, he left the country and later sought asylum in the United States. Built a Strong Online Following After arriving in America, Guo became a well known critic of the Chinese government. His online videos and political messages attracted thousands of supporters, especially among Chinese communities living overseas. His growing influence also helped him build relationships with several prominent political figures and activists, including former White House adviser Steve Bannon. Federal prosecutors argued that Guo used his popularity and political image to gain the trust of supporters before convincing them to invest in his financial ventures. Prosecutors Welcome the Verdict Following the sentencing, US prosecutors said the lengthy prison term reflects the seriousness of the crimes. They stated that Guo took advantage of the trust placed in him by thousands of people and used their money to enrich himself. Officials added that wealth and public influence do not protect anyone from being held accountable for financial crimes. Conclusion The case marks one of the largest fraud convictions involving a high profile Chinese businessman in the United States. Authorities believe the sentence sends a clear message that large scale financial fraud will face serious legal consequences, regardless of a person's status or influence.

Accra Floods Kill 13 as Heavy Rain Triggers Widespread Damage Across Ghana's Capital Heavy rainfall caused deadly flooding across Accra, the capital of Ghana, leaving at least 13 people dead and forcing emergency teams to rescue hundreds of residents. Authorities have warned that another storm is approaching, increasing the risk of more flooding in the coming hours. Torrential Rain Leaves Parts of Accra Underwater A powerful overnight downpour flooded streets, homes, and businesses across several neighborhoods in Accra. Water quickly covered low lying areas, trapping residents inside their homes and leaving many vehicles stranded. Emergency workers responded throughout the city as floodwaters spread rapidly. Videos shared online showed submerged houses, damaged buildings, and roads that had become impossible to use. Officials said the number of deaths could rise as rescue teams continue searching the affected communities. Rescue Teams Save Hundreds of Residents Emergency services launched large scale rescue operations soon after the flooding began. Firefighters, police officers, military personnel, and disaster response teams worked together to reach stranded families. According to the Ghana National Fire Service, rescue crews have already helped more than 470 people reach safety. Teams remain on alert because some residents are still trapped in flooded neighborhoods. The Interior Ministry said security personnel will continue monitoring affected areas to protect both lives and property during the emergency. Government Urges Residents to Stay Safe Government officials asked residents to stay indoors if they are already in a safe place. People living in flood affected homes have been advised to move to higher ground immediately. Authorities also warned everyone to avoid walking or driving through flooded roads because strong currents can quickly become dangerous. Residents needing emergency assistance have been instructed to contact emergency services without delay. Heavy Rainfall Raises Climate Concerns President John Mahama said preliminary weather data showed that approximately 140 millimeters of rain fell over Accra during the storm. He noted that the city's highest single day rainfall last year measured only about 56 millimeters. The unusually heavy rainfall has raised fresh concerns about the growing impact of climate change on extreme weather events in the region. More Rain Expected Across Southern Ghana The Ghana Meteorological Agency has warned that another storm system moving from the east could bring additional rainfall across southern Ghana, including Accra. Weather officials advised residents to avoid sheltering beneath trees, stay away from damaged electrical wires, and never attempt to cross floodwaters on foot or by vehicle. Emergency authorities remain on high alert as they continue rescue operations and prepare for the possibility of further flooding. Accra Faces Growing Flood Risks Accra is one of Africa's fastest growing cities and is home to more than four million people. Rapid urban growth, combined with intense seasonal rainfall, has increased the city's vulnerability to flooding in recent years. As recovery efforts continue, officials are urging residents to follow safety instructions and remain prepared until weather conditions improve.

Gojek Founder Nadiem Makarim Sentenced to 10 Years in Indonesia Corruption Case Former Education Minister Convicted Over Chromebook Procurement Deal Nadiem Makarim, the co founder of Southeast Asia's popular super app Gojek, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after an Indonesian court found him guilty in a major corruption case linked to a government laptop procurement project. The 41 year old entrepreneur denied all allegations during the trial. However, the court ruled against him and handed down the prison sentence. Supporters gathered outside the courthouse in Jakarta reacted with loud boos as the verdict was announced. Court Orders Restitution Worth Millions Along with the prison term, the court ordered Makarim to repay 809 billion rupiah, which is around 45 million US dollars. Judges said the amount represented the money he allegedly gained through the project. Makarim stated that he cannot afford to pay the restitution. As a result, he could face an additional five years behind bars. The court also imposed a one billion rupiah fine. If he fails to pay the fine, he will serve another 190 days in prison. Case Linked to School Chromebook Procurement The case focuses on the Education Ministry's purchase of Chromebook laptops for schools between 2021 and 2022. According to prosecutors, officials had already concluded in 2018 that Chromebooks were not suitable for many remote regions because they depend on reliable internet access. Despite that assessment, the ministry moved forward with the purchase. Investigators claimed the decision followed a meeting between Makarim and Google representatives in 2020. They argued that the procurement process favored Google's Chrome operating system and limited fair competition during the tender process. Prosecutors Claim Tender Favored Google Prosecutors alleged that Makarim designed procurement requirements that matched only Google's Chrome based devices. They claimed this gave Google a dominant position in Indonesia's education technology system. Authorities also pointed out that Makarim continued to hold a minority share in Gojek while serving as education minister. Since Google was one of Gojek's investors, prosecutors argued that this created a conflict of interest. They further claimed that the procurement caused state losses of approximately 125 million US dollars and violated Indonesia's anti corruption commitments. Critics Question the Investigation Several critics and supporters believe the case carries political motives. They argue that investigators relied on weak evidence and targeted Makarim because of his political connections. Despite those claims, the court decided that the prosecution had presented enough evidence to secure a conviction. From Tech Entrepreneur to Government Minister Makarim co founded Gojek, one of Southeast Asia's largest technology companies. The platform serves more than 170 million users across the region and offers ride hailing, food delivery, and digital payment services. In 2019, he stepped down from Gojek to join the administration of former Indonesian President Joko Widodo as education minister. He remained in the role until 2024 before becoming the subject of the corruption investigation. What Happens Next? Makarim now faces a lengthy prison sentence along with significant financial penalties. Unless he successfully challenges the ruling through the legal process or pays the court ordered restitution, he could spend up to 15 years in prison. The verdict marks one of the most closely watched corruption cases involving a high profile technology executive and former government official in Indonesia.
