RAWALPINDI: In the £190 million reference, an accountability court on Monday granted pre-arrest release to Bushra Bibi, the wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan.
The development occurs after Khan’s bail request in the aforementioned case was granted in May by a two-member Islamabad High Court (IHC) bench made up of Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri.
A PTI government settlement with a real estate mogul is the subject of a NAB investigation involving the former prime minister, Bushra, and other PTI leaders. The settlement is said to have cost the national exchequer £190 million.
But because of the iddat case, the couple is still detained and is not expected to be released after a district and sessions court turned down their pleas.
The defense attorneys cross-examined three additional witnesses that the NAB called at today’s session.
Thirty witnesses have so far had their statements recorded for the case; twenty-seven of them have undergone cross-examination.
The attorneys for the accountability watchdog also informed the court that the former first lady does not currently have an arrest warrant out for her.
On the following hearing, the court called additional witnesses, and the matter was postponed until July 5.
