ISLAMABAD: On Friday, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan declared that the Supreme Court’s decision has thwarted the intentions of the ruling coalition to modify the Constitution to suit its needs.
In a unanimous decision, the supreme court ruled that the PTI qualifies as a political party and is entitled to reserved seats that the Election Commission of Pakistan had refused to award (ECP).
The government now lacks the two-thirds majority in the Parliament that it needs to change the Constitution as a result of the order.
The attorney stated that the ruling made by the court today was founded on the facts when speaking to the media following the Supreme Court’s announcement of its decision.
For 25 million people, today is a good day for democracy.
He went on to say that 11 Supreme Court judges had decided in favor of PTI, and the decision had prevented any attempt to change the Constitution.
Gohar clarified that the seats will be returned to PTI in accordance with the appeals that have been granted in an 8 to 5 ratio.
He continued: “We request the Commission to implement these orders immediately and first of all, the Election Commission should issue us the certificate of our intra-party election within this week.”
