ISLAMABAD Reports surfaced of a “indirect dialogue” between the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz-led (PML-N) and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), which the PML-N leaders vehemently denounced.
Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal connected the commencement of talks to the PTI’s purportedly orchestrated violent rallies on May 9, 2018, which resulted in assaults on military posts and public assets, after party founder Imran Khan was arrested in connection with a corruption investigation.
Khawaja Asif, the minister of defence, expressed his opposition to the discussions with the former ruling party, saying he is against any kind of dialogue.
Prior to this, the ruling parties repeatedly reached out to the Imran Khan-founded party, but to no avail because the latter has declared he will have negotiations with people who actually hold the reins of power in the nation.
