Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, the head of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was placed under house arrest on Monday by the Islamabad High Court, which mandated that the Interior Ministry finish the process in 15 days.
The PTI politician’s appeal to have his residence declared a sub-jail or to have him sent to a hospital was approved, and that is when the court issued its instructions.
Elahi’s wife, Qaisara Elahi, made the plea to either declare his house a sub-jail or move the former chief minister of Punjab to a hospital.
The directives were given by Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir of the IHC, who was hearing the plea. He gave the Adiala jail superintendent instructions to see to it that the 78-year-old politician receiving medical care at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences complies with his intentions.
“Parvez Elahi has not been found guilty. The court order stated, “Medical facilities should be provided to the satisfaction of this 78-year-old undertrial prisoner.” It further stated that each week while incarcerated, the lawmaker should be permitted to have a medical examination by their own doctor.
The court ruled that Elahi had applied to both the extra and provincial home secretaries, giving the former instructions to review the veteran politician’s request and make a decision.
The statement said, “If the matter does not fall under the jurisdiction of the home secretary, refer the matter to the concerned forum within two days,” and it also claimed that the legislation required the relevant forum to make a decision on Elahi’s wife’s plea within 14 days.
