PESHAWAR: On Wednesday, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) was given an order by the Peshawar High Court (PHC) to make sure that any offensive or blasphemous content is taken down from the social media site TikTok.
The plea to ban TikTok in Pakistan was critically heard by a bench consisting of Justice Shakeel Ahmed and Justice SM Atiq Shah.
Advocate Imran Khan filed a lawsuit asking the court to order the respondents, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), the PTA, and the Ministry of Information, to permanently ban TikTok from the country due to repeated violations of the law and rules.
Concerns regarding the platform’s content were discussed by the court, which concentrated on offensive and blasphemous films.
PTA’s attorney, Jehanzaib Mehsud, told the judge, “We have submitted our comments today.”
According to the petitioner’s attorney, the petition had requested that TikTok be banned, stating that “while we do not oppose the sharing of positive content, the platform is also being used to share blasphemous material.”
