LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: A senior party leader said on Sunday that Ameer Sultan, a member of the National Assembly (MNA) for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), had been “abducted” in Lahore by unidentified persons.
Sultan, who won the election from NA-110 in Jhang to represent him in the lower house of parliament, was kidnapped as he was at his home on Sarwar Road in the capital of Punjab, according to PTI Lahore Secretary General Hafiz Zeeshan.
The PTI leader stated, “Unknown men arrived [at this house] in two vehicles and abducted him last night,” asserting that the party members are now “unsafe” in light of the Supreme Court’s ruling about the reserved seats.
The PTI will become the biggest party once it obtains the reserved seats, as the highest court has decided that the party is entitled to them.
SSP Cantt Awais Shafiq responded by telling Geo News that neither the PTI MNA’s arrest nor any complaints regarding his supposed kidnapping had been received by the police.
When asked why there had not been a complaint filed yet, Zeeshan responded to Geo News by saying that the party was in the process of drafting one and would deliver it to the police station on Monday.
Top PTI leader Asad Qaiser questioned “[how] can a country run where politicians’ loyalties are shifted” in a statement after learning of his party’s MNA’s kidnapping.
Here, the judiciary is treated with no respect; the law of the jungle rules. The court’s rulings are publicly opposed,” stated the former NA speaker.
