To increase customer convenience and market clarity, the new laws set specific weight categories, colors, and labeling criteria for different kinds of wheat products.

The official announcement states that plain flour will now be offered for sale in 10 kilogram and 20 kg quantities in bags of white hue.

The orange-colored bags containing fortified flour, which has extra nutrients added to enhance health benefits, will be offered in 10 kg and 20 kg quantities.

Additionally, 15 kg quantities of special super flour will be marketed in gray or silver sacks.

Earlier in the day, owners of flour mills threatened to walk out on Thursday, July 11, in protest of the budget 2024–25’s proposed 2.5 percent withholding tax.

The proprietors of the flour mills issued a statement threatening to close every mill in Pakistan starting on Thursday unless their demands were fulfilled.

In a statement, the chairman of the Flour Mills Association, Sindh Aamir Abdullah, stated that they will begin a total strike on Thursday and cease washing and grinding of the wheat as of tomorrow, July 10.
