KARACHI: Shaheen Afridi, the famed pacer for Pakistan, and his wife Ansha Afridi are expecting their first child.
“Shaheen’s pregnancy may prevent her from attending Bangladesh Test matches. If he wishes to remain with his wife till then, we can give him [some] rest,” red-ball coach Jason Gillispie of the national team stated.
In February 2023, the couple’s nikah was formally performed in Karachi’s Zakaria Mosque. However, later in September of last year, they had their wedding and valima.
A number of current and former cricket players, including Babar Azam, Misbah-ul-Haq, Saeed Anwer, Sohail Khan, Tanveer Ahmed, and others, attended the wedding ceremony on September 19 at a nearby hotel in Karachi.
In contrast, the valima took place on September 21 in Islamabad.
The bowler is anticipated to be unavailable for the national team in August, when the Green Shirts play a two-match Test series against Bangladesh.
Shaheen has been in the news recently due to allegations that he misbehaved with the management team and coaches.
Just before the T20 World Cup in 2024, sources claim that the bowler got into disagreements with Mohammad Yousuf, Pakistan’s batting coach, while the team was touring England.
The national team’s captaincy drama, in which he was ousted by Babar as the white-ball captain in March, had also made the star player the talk of the town before then.
