All-rounder Shoaib Malik suggested bringing back captain Babar Azam and wicketkeeper/batsman Mohammad Rizwan for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 amid a continuing discussion about Pakistan’s opening tandem.
Against Ireland, Pakistan’s captain Babar Azam played at No. 3, partnering with Saim Ayub and Mohammad Rizwan. With a score of 45, Saim Ayub scored the highest score, while Rizwan hit two fifty.
Since Saim hasn’t hit a fifty in T20Is, there are questions about his form. A lot of people have proposed switching back to the productive starting duo of Babar and Rizwan.
In the meantime, the former skipper spoke with a group of reporters at Nassau County International Cricket in New York and offered his opinion on who should open.
“Saim Ayub plays with high-risk and this kind of batter has less chance of being consistent,” Malik stated.
“Pakistan should start with Saim in high-scoring matches; however, Babar-Rizwan should open if the matches are being played at a par score of 160 or 170.
Malik, meanwhile, is certain that Pakistan will do well in the competition.
