From television fame to political ambition
Spencer Pratt, once known for his role as a controversial personality on The Hills, is now competing for a very different position. He has entered the race for mayor of Los Angeles, the second largest city in the United States. Pratt, who is forty two years old, previously worked in publicity and later appeared on Celebrity Big Brother.
His shift from entertainment to politics has attracted attention across the city, especially as he positions himself as a political outsider challenging established leaders.
A competitive and crowded election field
The Los Angeles mayoral race includes more than thirty candidates. It is a non partisan primary, meaning all candidates compete in the same round regardless of political party. If a candidate receives more than half of the total votes, they win directly. If not, the top two move forward to the general election in November.
Recent polling shows Mayor Karen Bass leading with twenty six percent support from likely voters. City council member Nithya Raman follows closely with twenty five percent. Spencer Pratt is not far behind with twenty two percent, placing him within striking distance of the top candidates.
Strong fundraising performance boosts visibility
One of the most surprising developments in Pratt’s campaign is his fundraising strength. Between mid April and mid May, he raised about two point seven million dollars. This amount is significantly higher than what his main competitors raised during the same period.
His campaign team has used social media heavily, including short video content and promotional clips that have gained attention online. This digital approach has helped him reach voters beyond traditional political channels.
Campaign message focused on city challenges
Pratt has centered his campaign on issues such as public safety, homelessness, and city cleanliness. He has also linked his campaign to the major wildfires that impacted Los Angeles in the previous year, including the loss of his own home.
He argues that the city needs stronger leadership and better crisis response. His proposals include mandatory treatment programs for drug addiction and broader reforms aimed at improving public order.
Criticism from political opponents
Established politicians have questioned Pratt’s experience and readiness for office. Mayor Karen Bass has criticized his background, stating that he lacks experience in government and has not demonstrated understanding of city issues.
Nithya Raman has also raised concerns, describing Pratt as someone who promotes unrealistic solutions and questioning his approach to complex urban problems.
Experts question his long term chances
Political analysts suggest that while Pratt has gained attention, his path to victory remains difficult. Los Angeles has not elected a Republican mayor in more than twenty years, and the city tends to lean strongly toward progressive candidates.
Experts also note that Pratt’s support base appears limited compared to the broader and more diverse population of Los Angeles.
Pratt responds to criticism
Pratt has defended his campaign by arguing that practical thinking matters more than political experience. He claims that his approach is focused on solving problems that residents see every day. According to him, the city needs change rather than traditional political methods.
