ISLAMABAD: Sher Afzal Marwat, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was given non-bailable arrest warrants by a local court on Monday in connection with his alleged participation in illegal building.

Marwat was accused of building illegally and without authorization on a plot of property close to the Thallian Motorway Interchange, and a case was filed against him at the Naseerabad Police Station.

The MNA was ordered to be taken into custody by the police and brought before the court on July 30 by the judicial magistrate.

The order was issued in response to allegations made by the former ruling party that the government was pressuring PTI leaders to switch their allegiance following the Supreme Court’s ruling on the reserved seats.

In accordance with the ruling of the supreme court, PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan announced on Saturday that his party had compiled a list of MNAs, including Marwat.

He had promised to deliver the lists to Pakistan’s Election Commission in 15 days while speaking with reporters in Adiala jail.

Gohar asserted on Sunday that MPs in his party were being pressured to change their allegiance and asked the top court to step in and settle the dispute.

He denounced the “abduction” of PTI leaders and their families, including MNA Sahibzada Ameer Sultan, Rizwan Malik of the PTI media wing, Mian Tajamal Hussain and brother Mian Imtiaz Hussain of Mian Fayyaz Ahmad Chajra, and other social media activists.
