PESHAWAR: On Sunday, the Khyber Pakhunkhwa government, led by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), wrote Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) requesting the creation of a judicial committee to look into the events of May 9.
“The letter requesting the establishment of a judicial commission was sent to the chief justice by the administration department,” KP Law Minister Aftab Alam Afridi stated in an interview with Geo News.
Afridi stated that the chief justice will reveal the names of the committee members, and that a PHC judge will chair the judicial commission.
A day prior, at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, the KP cabinet approved the creation of a judicial panel to look into the events of May 9.A judicial investigation of the May 9 rallies that occurred nationwide last year in response to the detention of party founder Imran Khan in the Al-Qadir Trust issue has been a demand of the PTI.
Alleged PTI supporters stormed military sites across the nation and caused damage to both private and public property during the rallies.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan reaffirmed the party’s demand to conduct a judicial investigation into the incident in May of this year.
