The National Security Council spokesman, John Kirby, stated that “Avdiivka is at risk of falling into Russian control,” noting the paucity of weapons in Ukraine.
Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, promised to stop at nothing to “save as many Ukrainian lives as possible”.
Russian forces are closing in on Avdiivka and posing a threat.
The nearly entirely devastated village is thought to be a gateway to the nearby city of Donetsk, which was illegally annexed by Moscow in 2014 after being taken over by militants backed by Russia.

During the Washington briefing on Thursday, Mr. Kirby stated that the main reason Avdiivka could fall is “because the Ukrainian forces on the ground are running out of artillery ammunition”.
“Russia is sending wave after wave of conscript forces to attack Ukrainian positions,” he stated.
“Moreover, we have not been able to give Ukraine the artillery shells they so desperately need to stop these Russian attacks because Congress has not yet passed the supplementary bill.
“Russian forces are now reaching Ukrainian trenches in Avdiivka, and they’re beginning to overwhelm Ukrainian defences.”
