According to sources who spoke with Geo News on Tuesday, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has chosen to select former veteran cricketer Waqar Younis and divide his authority inside the board with the former pacer.
According to the sources, Younis will handle matters pertaining to cricket, while PCB chief Naqvi—who also has to fulfill his duties as the nation’s interior minister—will handle board administrative issues, including those pertaining to the 2025 Champions Trophy, which Pakistan is scheduled to host in February and March of next year.
The former cricket player is expected to be assigned a decision-making role in which he would be able to handle concerns pertaining to domestic and international cricket, the selection committee, and the issuance of No Objection Certificates (NOCs).The PCB Constitution of 2014 states that the chairman of the board may assign authority to another person. As a result, Younis will have the authority to decide on all team-related matters.
They also stated that Naqvi’s goal is to include veteran cricket players in significant facets of the game.
The chairman met with almost two dozen Pakistani cricket players, both past and present, earlier this month to talk about the sport’s future in that nation.
Naqvi promised to put the meeting’s recommendations into practice and stated that the five or six items that the cricket players in the meeting brought up would be done so.
The PCB CEO announced that cricket academies will be constructed in response to the idea of former Test cricket player Yasir Hameed.
