Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, has declared unequivocally that his party will do everything it takes to ensure the establishment of the constitutional court.
During his Tuesday speech to the Sindh High Court Bar Association, the PPP chief said that the 19th constitutional amendment was forced through “a threat from the Supreme Court.”
Come what may, he pledged, “the judicial reforms would be undertaken in line with the Charter of Democracy (COD).”
Following the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) request last month for the early issuance, the government pushed the proposed constitutional package amid rumors of a possible extension in the tenure of Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa, who is scheduled to retire in October of this year.
