Andy Murray has joined the coaching setup of British number two Jack Draper for the grass court season. The partnership begins ahead of Wimbledon and brings two major British tennis names together at a key moment in the season.
Murray Steps Into Coaching Role
Murray has not been active on the tour since his short coaching spell with Novak Djokovic last year. Now he returns to the coaching side, but only for the grass court period.
Draper confirmed the change after ending his partnership with coach Jamie Delgado. He praised Delgado for his strong support and experience during the last six months.
The Lawn Tennis Association team will continue supporting Draper, with Murray joining to guide him through the grass court swing.
Draper Focuses on Recovery and Comeback
Draper has dealt with repeated injury problems over the past year. A knee tendon issue forced him out of the French Open.
His ranking has also dropped due to long breaks from competition. He is expected to fall outside the top 75 after the Italian Open.
He plans to return during the grass court season. Possible comeback events include Stuttgart and Queen’s, depending on his recovery.
Strong Personal Bond Turns Professional
Murray and Draper already share a close relationship. Draper often describes Murray as a mentor and big brother figure.
They have supported each other for years, both on and off the court. Their friendship has grown through Davis Cup ties and shared training moments.
This coaching move builds on that trust and familiarity, especially as Draper prepares for Wimbledon.
What Murray Brings to Draper’s Game
Murray brings deep experience from top level tennis, including multiple Grand Slam titles and Wimbledon success. He also understands the pressure of being a British player at Wimbledon.
He has also dealt with serious injuries during his career. That experience may help Draper manage his own physical setbacks and recovery process.
Murray’s recent coaching experience with elite players adds further value to Draper’s team during this short grass court phase.
Coaching Change Comes at a Key Moment
Draper hired Jamie Delgado in October, but injuries limited their time together. They worked at only a few tournaments this season.
Despite that, Delgado helped refine Draper’s serve and brought strong tactical knowledge from his own coaching background.
Now Draper shifts direction just before Wimbledon, where expectations and attention always rise for British players.
