A tiger escaped from a private animal enclosure near Leipzig, Germany, after a violent attack on its 72 year old keeper. The man suffered serious injuries while working inside the enclosure.
The animal then left its confined area, triggering an emergency response. Armed police arrived quickly and located the tiger soon after.
Officers shot the animal to stop any further danger to people nearby.
How the Escape Happened
The exact reason the tiger broke out is still unclear. Authorities have launched an investigation to understand how the enclosure failed.
Police confirmed the emergency call came shortly before 1 pm local time. Officers reached the site soon after and secured the surrounding area.
A drone search was also planned to check that no other animals had escaped from the property.
Private Facility and Owner Connection
The enclosure is linked to a controversial animal trainer known in Germany for working with big cats. She is widely referred to in media reports as the Tiger Queen.
The site reportedly houses multiple big cats kept on an industrial style property near Schkeuditz. Local reports suggest there were around eight tigers at the location.
The trainer is known for public shows where people can interact with tigers under controlled conditions.
Public Reaction and Safety Concerns
Local officials expressed concern about what could have happened if the situation had worsened. One district official called for the remaining animals to be relocated.
Nearby residents described the incident as alarming and said they were worried about safety standards at the facility.
Animal welfare groups also called for stricter rules on private ownership of large wild animals, saying stronger oversight is needed to protect both people and animals.
